What Hath Apple Wrought.

In a smart article about Apple’s design and business philosophy, Mike Davidson pauses to discuss the frustration we all feel regarding the intersection of what we want when we visit a site (to find information and leave) and what the site owners want for us (to make them money).

Today, the cellphone and seemingly burgeoning tablet industry are more concerned with jockeying for position than profiting, ergo little to no intrusive advertising. That’s nice while it lasts, but it won’t be long.

The big question is, how will mobile sites make money going forward? There is no doubt that the mobile Internet will soon have more attention share than the sitting-at-a-desk Internet. Hopefully tasteful advertising fends off the desktop status quo, but I’m not optimistic.
