Jay & Nate Square Off.
Adam Lisagor, the homeless man’s Stanley Kubrick, comes up with another promotional YouTube gem (co-starring fellow Twitter-lebrity Jason Permenter), this time for iPhone credit card service Square. Nate and I have differing opinions of Square’s usefulness:
- Nate:
- square is interesting. apparently there are already things that do this, but it looks easy.
- Nate:
- i won’t be buying a dongle any time soon for personal transactions, and i doubt anyone else will either.
- Jay:
- if you were at all social, the “paying people back” angle is useful.
- Nate:
- if you were a real socialist, you wouldn’t need people to pay you back.
- Jay:
- you win.

Not tied in to either of your barbs, but: I’m not sure I would trust just some dude with a couch to take my credit card number. Just because it looks like Square and Quacks like Square, doesn’t mean it’s Square. Could be Squore, let’s say, which automatically emails my credit card number to that part of Brazil that’s totally lawless.
Jay
True, some clerk at Starbucks is gonna figure out how to hack the Square dongle to work with a jailbroken iPhone and start stealing credit card numbers left and right. So…practice safe Squaring!
Devan
Too soon.
